A social media trend has been blasted by a number of users, who claim it is an example of “diet culture” at its worst.
The “chubby” AI trend allows users to see what they’d look like if they were “chubby”, with a growing number of TikTokers using the filter. The videos have begun appearing on apps like TikTok with one influencer taking a stand against the fad.
“What the f*ck is going on with this ‘this is what I would look chubby’ AI trend (sic). If you are using that trend you are joining a culture of people who have knowingly been using the trend to either mock people who are considered overweight or chubby or you’re knowingly using that trend to fish for being flattered about your weight pre using that trend,” SaffsStuff said in a video, posted to TikTok on Sunday.
“I don’t understand how people have become so unattached from the feelings of others when posting,” another socials media user commented.
“I thought we were finally getting somewhere with no idiolising size 0 bodies (sic). But it seems like we’re going back to the nothing tastes as good as skinny feels days again,” another added.
