Is it time to make politicians’ diaries public?

Hear the discussion.

Alexander Circosta raised the idea, on Thursday, that MPs’ diaries should be made public so voters can see how their tax-payer dollars are being spent.

Circosta questioned what politicians are doing when they are not in Parliament, noting that the public is often simply told they are “busy”.

Youth Jam’s Isaac Mulcrone suggested the move would allow people to see the “interests they’re trying to please”, providing real-time visibility into who might be influencing politicians to pursue specific agendas.

“Then we find out, spotted at millionaire’s home for fundraiser… If you had to have that transparency, which is what we need more than ever because people don’t trust them and unfortunately they’ve given a lot of people reasons not to,” Alexander said during Newsflash.
