CW: Domestic violence
A senior One Nation advisor has compared the party’s relationship with the ABC to domestic violence.
James Ashby, the national director for the far-right party, made the comparison on Wednesday when asked about booting the ABC and The Guardian from a party press conference a day earlier.
“We’re happy to face the tough questions,” he told Nine.
“But with the ABC it’s like going back to some domestic violence relationship and just getting beaten they come through the door.
“Sorry, we’re not going to participate in that and I won’t have these morally bankrupt organisations like The Guardian or the ABC that they must be in press conference.”
Sherele Moody from the Australian Femicide Watch described the comments as “infuriating”.
“I cannot begin to tell you how infuriating it is for any political party to reduce the severity of domestic violence to a 10-second media bite,” she wrote on her website.
“Do they even know that the majority of the women lost to femicide this year were killed as a result of male-perpetrated domestic violence?
“A party that wants to govern should know better than to minimise the epidemic of abuse against Australian women and children.”
