‘Pinned to the window’: Commuter’s plea to curb manspreading

Manspreading was a topic of conversation on Thursday’s Luke Sharp LIVE, with Youth Jam’s Isaac Mulcrone calling in to share his experience on a Perth bus earlier this week.

“I was literally pinned to the window in this bus seat,” he said.

A man sitting next to him spread his legs so wide that it made for a nightmare 25 minute ordeal.

Mulcrone admits he didn’t say anything to his fellow commuter, but wishes people would understand common courtesy.

Should manspreading be banned? Mulcrone suggested erecting signage, like in New York and Madrid, to discourage the behaviour but conceded there was no instant fix to the problem.

“I reckon there needs to be, like in New York and Madrid, signs put up on buses, at train stations, on trains, ferries etcetera that tell people not to manspread,” he argued.

“I’m not sure if a fine is going to be a good idea, purely as there are other things we could be tackling other than manspreading.”
