On the eve of Fremantle’s preliminary final against the Swans, a group of Dockers supporters projected an anti-gas message onto Woodside’s headquarters in Perth.
Climate activist group Get Off My Chest claimed responsibility for the Thursday night stunt in a social media post on Friday.
“It’s not just Wharfie Time! It’s Wharfie Time TO TAX GAS,” the group wrote on social media.
“What Woodside spends on the Dockers sponsorship is truly minuscule compared to what it would be on the hook for if a proper gas tax was introduced.
“Never forget these are your gas resources – they belong to the Australian people. And we all deserve to be fairly compensated for them, not pandered to with Woodside’s bootleg version of Wharfie Time,” the group said.
In December 2024, Woodside Energy and the Fremantle Football Club agreed to extend their long-standing partnership by two years, ensuring their 15-year relationship continues until at least 2027.
The extension came into effect in 2025.
The deal is understood to be worth an estimated $2 million per year.
