Youth Jam sport correspondent Jaxon Bassett told Isaac Mulcrone there is a 50/50 chance of ‘Wharfie Time’ getting a run during Thursday’s qualifying final against Hawthorn.
“For Thursday night I would put it at around 50-55 per cent (for Wharfie time). I do think it is going to be a pretty close game.
“Hawthorn did really well in round nine… (The) Hawks were able to pounce on Freo’s turnovers and really (took) advantage of mismatches in the forward half,” he told Newsflash listeners on Monday.
Bassett is optimistic that Fremantle will secure the win in front of a capacity crowd of 55,000 to 56,000 expected at Optus Stadium.
“It is a sell out. The general public went on sale at 3pm on Thursday or Friday and then Freo confirmed it was sold out at 3.44pm, less than an hour after tickets were available to everyone else after the members got the first share. We’re getting 55-56,000+. It’s going to be a mental crowd on the night,” he said.
The club is welcoming back a number of players to the squad, including Murphy Reid following a suspected testicular injury.
While the game is tipped to go the Dockers’ way, Bassett predicts a close contest.
“I think this is going to be a pretty close encounter, but I think Freo will be a little bit too strong in this particular game.”
