British rapper Yung Filly has been fined for drug possession after being found with cannabis in the vehicle he was driving on May 20, while on bail.
The 31-year-old, whose real name is Andre Filipe Valencia Barrientos, entered a guilty plea at Mandurah Magistrates Court, on Tuesday, and was fined $750.
He was driving a Kia K4 along Mandurah Road at 10:22pm when he was pulled over for a random breath test. While the test was negative, Barrientos was on a video call while driving and a strong smell of cannabis coming from the car prompted police to conduct a search.
He admitted there was a bag of cannabis under the driver’s seat.
Barrientos’ legal representation unsuccessfully applied for a suppression order, arguing that his name and conviction should be kept from the public due to an upcoming high-profile trial at the District Court.
The rapper will be re-tried on three rape charges in 2027, after a jury failed to reach a verdict in July. He is currently on bail but has been cleared to fly back to the UK.
Magistrate Claire Cullen dismissed the suppression application, stating that the charge would not “prejudice the district court proceedings”.
